The glide agent market differentiates two product categories, namely water-based glide agents and silicone-based glide agents.

Water-based products have the advan- tage of being soluble, are thus washable and very hygienic. The disadvantage is that with the evaporation of the water proportion due to friction, the glide characteristic disappears and the generic

characteristic – the gliding – is reduced by up to 80%. The product thickens and
is felt to be sticky.
 
Silicone-based glide agents are long lasting in gliding terms. The disadvan- tage is that these products are not soluble. The residues are difficult to dispense of and that is unhygienic. Moreover the silicone components of a pure silicone glide agent, for example,

attack the silicone surfaces of sex toys and condoms and damage them. On these grounds, pure silicone glide agents often cannot guarantee 100% condom compatibility.
