Personal lubricants are predominantly classified in two product categories ... pure water based lubricants and pure silicone based lubricants. Both categories have product advantages and disadvantage.

Water based lubricants
Water based lubricants in general consist of water and thickener. The main benefit of water based lubricants is their water solubility. In this way they are very hygienic, skin friendly and leave no stains. The main disadvantage and the genuine product feature is that they quickly get sticky when using it. Because of the friction the water evaporates and the increasing portion of thickeners makes the product more and more sticky.

Silicone based lubricants
The main benefit of pure silicone based lubricants is that they don`t contain water and thus don`t get sticky. They are plentiful and offer a long lasting lubrication. But they also have disadvantages because of their water insolubility like being not hygienic, often not skin friendly and leaving stains in clothing and bedding which can`t be washed out easily.
